Further comment
Instead of selling Aurora there should be a publicly held inquiry as to why the council put profit taking ahead of upgrading and maintaining Aurora's assets from the time that Suki Turner was mayor. From that time on the maintenance was reduced to repairs for faults, there were also major plant and staff cuts. The whole management of the company should also be looked at. An example of poor decision making was the replacement pole programme, a project where defective poles were identified and replaced. Part of this programme was promoted to replace 50,000 poles including transformer structures. I personally worked on this project and a significant number of perfectly good poles and structures were replaced in order to make up an image purely as a publicity statement. Another failure was the lack of a vegetation management program which was the source of a lot of outages and transmission losses. Aurora should be kept in council ownership and other councils where the Aurora network exists be invited to become shareholders. Any profits made to used to upgrade and maintain the network and paydown existing debt.
