Further comment
The NZ Lifelines Council describes lifelines as the “essential infrastructure and services that support our community – utility services such as water, wastewater and stormwater, electricity, gas, telecommunications and transportation networks including road, rail, airports and ports”. Privatisation has seldom benefited the wider community. Privatisation puts a priority on profit over community wellbeing, and while regulated monopolies are regulated by the Commerce Commission and Electricity Authority this regulation does not guarantee any responsiveness towards the community, nor facilitate innovation, nor does it assist with decarbonisation of the system. We can best drive innovation, decarbonisation and equitable outcomes by retaining ownership and ensuring good governance for Aurora to drive Dunedin's Zero Carbon goals. I would like to speak to this, however it would have to be via Zoom/Teams
