Option 1 is akin to selling off the family Silver and then ending up with nothing at all. Auckland had this idea a few years ago, it doesn't work! I have very serious reservations as to just what will happen to the residual amount leftover. Will ratepayers have a say in that? What is the chance that it will be syphoned off to pay the massive debts of Dunedin Railways which are likely to run into the hundreds of millions of dollars over the next few years? At least if we retain Aurora Energy we may well have a good investment in the foreseeable future that may well pay good dividends as time goes on even if not today.
