Option Two – The alternative option – Keep Aurora Energy
Further comment
I believe the sale of Aurora will temporarily relieve pressure for the DCC which would allow it to avoid passing on costs to rate payers via rate rises. In saying that, I believe the overall cost to ratepayers will accelerate regardless, just in a different envelope in the mail. I wish for Dunedin to maintain this public asset if at all possible.
I recognise the difficulty faced by councils amid escalating costs. I feel the sale would impact future generations unfairly. Please do not sell Aurora, as we will have even less control over cost increases.
I am not entirely against DCC parting with assets, just not in the direction of privatisation. I'd have opted toward the proposed Three Waters reform where the assets would have remained under public ownership, meanwhile alleviating DCC and ratepayer debt.
