I believe Council should retain ownership of Aurora to provide a not-for-profit service to supply the electricity needs of the people in the Dunedin and Central Otago areas. Council should never consider drawing a dividend as I consider this as one of Council’s core utility services.
Over the next few years, Aurora can work towards balancing out the capital and operational expenditure with the costs passed on to consumers. Not having to pay a dividend will lower investment levels and allow that money to be invested in the network for the public good.
