Further comment
While selling public assets may provide a short-term injection of cash, the long-term costs and consequences, such as increased prices for consumers or reduced quality of service, may outweigh the initial financial gain. Selling public assets means transferring control to private entities, which may not prioritise public interests. Selling them means losing the steady stream of income, which can impact public services and infrastructure. Once sold, it's often difficult to regain ownership of the asset. This could limit future options for the council to respond to changing needs or economic conditions. In addition to this, the ownership by private entities may lead to a monopoly or oligopoly which is outside the control of council, which can harm competition and consumer choice.
