Instead sell unneeded council-owned property and gain rates from the new owners as well as capital, e.g. Harbour Cone, Fortune Theatre, Sammys, Foulden Maar, Forbury Park. Also, claim from government departments, university, schools, churches, etc. All fixed charges which don't have rateable value covered by government decree or stop their services. Why should I have to subsidise them. Please note council has a bad history investment-wise: e.g. development of Queenstown Lakes and looking at other DCHL Companies, how many truly are profitable and only produce dividends by borrowings: stadium, rail, Delta to view a few. Also because of their standing, DCH are overpaid and should be reviewed. Contracts should be much more seriously looked at and the fine print examined regards to overruns, etc. Staff should not be wagging the tail of the council and need seriously viewed also. This could save a lot of rates and maintain future viability.
