Option Two – The alternative option – Keep Aurora Energy

Further comment
Aurora has, or will have access to each of hydro, solar, wind & wave energy generation. It is the goose with the golden egg. We simply cannot sell this asset from under our children & grandchildren's feet. Goodness knows we did enough of that in the 1980s & 1990s & I hope we never see the same short sightedness again. An asset sold is irreplaceable. This asset will inevitably pay dividends in the near future as our need increases for electricity. Aotearoa NZ is in the unique position of being able to produce its own energy, independently of oil or coal. Sell the golden eggs when they come, but please keep the goose. It is an asset that will fund Ōtepoti Dunedin infrastructure for future generations for a long time to come. If Aurora isn't showing dividends right now, it is far better to borrow against it while retaining ownership. Later it will pay dividends & we will pay any monies borrowed. If we choose not to use Aurora Energy as leverage for borrowing, which asset will we gift next to private ownership when we need quick cash? The long perspective would have us retain critical assets we have so we can borrow against in foul weather, & profit from in fair. Aurora is an asset that will keep Ōtepoti Dunedin balanced in the winds of change for the future, In the meantime, I'd request even significant rates rises before agreeing to sell one of our most precious assets, one that we all use & one that will be incredibly valuable to future generations.
