Vital public assets like this are better kept in public ownership. We need it to operate for good of users, not the profit of companies and their shareholders.
You say interest from buyers would be high - that means they expect to make a profit from the company. How - by charging users more and/or delivering lower quality?
(Just look at the sewerage filled rivers of the UK which sold their water infrastructure to private companies).
