Option Two – The alternative option – Keep Aurora Energy

Please demonstrate that this 'consultation' is not simply to satisfy a requirement under the Local Bodies Act.
I am strongly against selling Aurora Energy. It would be an extremely short-sighted temporary solution to the DCC financial problems.
It has been proven many times in NZ and international jurisdictions that when a public asset is privatised that the new owners prioritise shareholder profit and asset stripping over maintenance and investments in improvements to infrastructure. Prices to consumers are increased to increase profits. It is a rates increase by another means.
I would rather pay my rates to Dunedin than to an overseas business.
Once the enterprise has been run down the government (local or country) is required to buy it back and heavily invest to make it fit for purpose.
