Aurora needs to continue to be a public utility because it exists to serve the public, not turn a profit. Institutional debt is not the same as personal debt. If the DCC is struggling financially, we should work to rise the debt ceiling or petition central government to return GST for rates back to the council or find another way of supporting the DCC. Privatising a public utility is unacceptable.
Selling off council infrastructure to private entities is a terrible idea! I’m appalled that you would consider it. As a property owner in Dunedin, I an expect the city to maintain a portfolio of relevant public services, that’s what my rates should be going toward: services for all Dunedin residents
