Which option do you prefer?
Option Two – The alternative option – Keep Aurora Energy
Further comment
• Aurora belongs as an essential not-for-profit service, not as a business or sold to become be a privatised monopoly.
• Dividends should not be paid to the council.
• Under private ownership, the priority would be returns to shareholders, resulting in higher costs to consumers. Most of these returns would leave our region.
• If Aurora was sold, the maintenance costs will still exist and will be shifted from rate payers to consumers.
• Our most vulnerable members of our community will be affected the most with higher electricity costs. How does this fit into Dunedin City’s Portrait?
• Even though electricity distribution is a regulated industry there are always unintended consequences with government regulation.
• Past returns are not an indicator of future returns in investments funds. The economic growth model becoming unsustainable in a world with finite resources.
