Option Two – The alternative option – Keep Aurora Energy

From what I can gather, Aurora Power Company profits have been used to finance other ventures. This company should stand alone and keep its profits to sustain its existence and not be used as a cash cow by people who do not care about Aurora Power, only what they can get out of it.
It can generate profits again if managed properly and the public will be able to enjoy the stability of owning a good power company to keep supplying power to them for many years to come.
We must not encourage ownership as it is much harder to control an owner who lives overseas. They can make our power prices soar and there's nothing we can do about it. I was not aware they were using the equity in Aurora Power Company to help finance other companies. This makes me very unhappy.
I know nothing much about buying and selling shares, but it could be a possibility for Dunedin rate payers to buy shares in the company at a reasonable rate without promising any great returns for the first three years or so. The council should not be spending money that does not belong to them.
I think having the Otago Regional Council was a stupid move. More new buildings and office furniture, just a waste of rate payers' money.
