Alcohol licensing at events

On-site special licences allow for the sale and supply of alcohol to anyone attending an event. This can include a private function, street party or sporting event. A special licence can also be issued to an on or club licensee for an event not covered by their premises licence.

Off-site special licences allow for the sale and supply of alcohol for consumption away from the event at which it was bought.

You may not need a special licence if the venue you are holding your event at, has an alcohol licence which can cover your event. In that case, the venue will generally take responsibility for supplying the alcohol.

You should allow at least 20 working days for a special licence. An application fee will apply.

For large scale events with over 400 attendees, extra information will be required and discussed with the event organiser prior to an application being submitted.

To find out more, contact an Alcohol Licensing officer on 03 477 4000 or visit the Alcohol licensing page (New window).
