What is your feedback on the proposed changes
Kia ora, I am responding to the current consultation on changes to park times; and the proposed changes to the pedestrian crossing layout that the community has not been consulted on. I have spoken to the chair of the Chalmers Community Board and it seems not even they were not consulted on the change to the layout of the pedestrian crossing. This development appears to benefit the Port Company at the detriment of the library, hall and service centre users. This is the hub of our community with many activities going on both in the library and in the hall's complex of meeting rooms. These include yoga and pilates classes, childrens holiday activities, reading group, meetings, talks, knitting group and many others. The loss of carparks and reduction of park times makes it more difficult and arguably more dangerous for people with mobility issues or small children to access this facility, especially if they have to park on Macandrew Road and try crossing a very busy main intersection to the library and service centre. That is if there are parks available in Macandrew road, which is unlikely as this area is already an overflow for Port workers who can't find parks in their dedicated car park, as well as patrons to the businesses on that corner. With regard to parking times 30mins is also inadequate for most users. By moving the pedestrian crossing, I would argue that this would make it more dangerous as traffic turning into beach street, particularly trucks, will not be able to see if it is clear until they are already turning the corner, where as now you can see the crossing from quite a distance away. I would urge the Council to put a hault to these changes until a proper consultation has been undertaken that should be widely publicised using local media such as the Rothsay News. Not just a tiny sign on a pole.
