The disability car park allowed for in the new parking change shows that if the disabled person is the driver of the vehicle they would be opening their car door directly into the line of oncoming traffic. Not a well thought out park. Currently with the angle parking a disabled person is able to open their door without the fear of being collected by any other traffic. Also the 30 minute time limit is ridiculous as it hardly gives one time to visit the library to select new books or to browse the newspapers. It should be at least 90 minutes. A lot of people attend various classes or groups at the Town Hall - where are they supposed to park if their class is for one hour? Why can't the parking provisions be left as they are - shift the pedestrian crossing if you must. This will be the death knell of library usage in Port Chalmers and the Town Hall's wonderful facilities by our inability to use them satisfactorily if we have to keep moving our car from a 30 minute park.
