Re: proposed mobility park. The DCC website image (attached), shows a "new" parallel mobility park. A vehicle would need to drive past the library, turn around (somewhere?), in order to park in the mobility park. The mobility park that was already there, was at a right-angle to the library and could be entered without having to do a u-turn. The Carey's Bay end of Beach St already has parking available but, there is no pedestrian crossing and most visitors who'd normally park at the library, have mobility issues or, kids. It would be good to have an aerial photo of these parking spaces that "Port Otago have provided" to make up for the lost parks due to unnecessary alterations to the layout. Do they own the road? Or, are the additional spaces they're providing on their private property? I own a retail business nearby with zero parking spaces, these proposed changes outside the library don't help me at all. P30 timed spaces means less time for most visitors. People will often visit multiple businesses, as well as the library, which can take longer than 30mins. Just a library visit alone can take longer than 30mins, then add on: a coffee/lunch at the cafe, meds at the pharmacy, posting mail at DigiArt (postal service), looking in several businesses for a special birthday present, an ice cream from the dairy, being held up by everyone wanting to chat wherever you go etc. All that takes even longer if you're elderly, have physical issues, and/or have kids. It's unreasonable to think people will shift to another carpark every 30mins, especially as there will be fewer parks. If anything, browsing through the shops will be reduced, business could decrease, visitors may receive parking infringements and be deterred from visiting as frequently as they might normally. All the locals I've spoken to have said they're not happy about the alterations and don't like the plans at all. I hope they put in a submission.
