Travelling from west harbour to our fabulous west harbour library once per week, a 30 min park is simply not enough time to enjoy the library and what it has to offer. We regularly use the longer limited car parks, and getting rid of this parking for locals damages our ability to engage with our local DCC services! Who can really get their child out of the library in 30 mins? Seriously. Have you asked the library the average time of visits? We would be 1 hour and over. Don’t you want your community to use the fantastic library? This is not a community driven change. We don’t need a crossing when the majority of parking (both short and longer term) is on the same side of the street. Making this change will add an additional danger to my whānau as it adds in a road crossing to visit the library for quick visit, on a corner with logging trucks that come speeding past and won’t see anyone crossing the road and be able to stop in time. On occasions where we have parked across the road, and used the crossing it is a dangerous place to cross as you cannot see any thing coming around the corner, so neither can the trucks and utes with trailers, and they have difficultly stopping in time. I don’t see how moving the crossing further round the bend will resolve this! This is a very bad idea for several reasons and potentially fatal outcomes for our community. Leave it as it is.
