I am a started at Otago university in 2016. I lived at home rather than going to a hall of residence. I was doing health sciences that year and a few friends from high school were in the same boat. We would leave home early to park on harbour terrace every morning and walk to our lecture theatres from there. We parked here because there are few free all day parking opportunities. As students money was tight and we couldn’t afford the parking fees. Fast forward a few years, I am back at university as of 2023 and again require all day parking, again as a student I can’t afford paid parks 5 days a week 27 weeks of the year. I live more than 7km away and I am unable to cycle and I don’t feel comfortable using the bus hub. Removing this parking makes life very difficult for University students who don’t live close to campus. If these parks are to be changed please consider freeing up other parking to all day such as those by the Caledonian or in front of the teachers college.
