What is your feedback on the proposed changes
I have been a resident of the Harbour Terrace and Forth Street area for three years and I believe these changes are detrimental to residents of the area. Considering the primary population in this area is students, I also find the council’s claim that this change will benefit students unlikely. These parks are currently used by residents of Harbour Terrace, Dundas Street, and Forth Street as long-term residential parking. Changing these parks to P240 would make it much harder for these residents to find a place to keep their car, forcing them to park further afield. This is not only an inconvenience to Harbour Terrace residents, but also to the residents of surrounding streets who will suddenly find unrestricted parking scarce.
I also believe that this is a step in the wrong direction in terms of encouraging car commuting. If we are looking toward a carbon-neutral future, then we should not incentivise people to commute by car. This is exactly what removing long-term residential parking in favour of restricted parking does.
There is presently an abundance of restricted parking within a few minutes’ walk of the area, including all along Union St East, Logan Park Dr, parts of Harbour Tce, Forth St, and Clyde St. If P240 parks are needed, why can’t the council reallocate some of these (mostly P120) parks?
