While I am all for the use of cycles and public transport, the reduction of so many longer term carparks is going to mean that parking in the city and close to work for those of us who have to drive, from out of the city, is going to become quite impractical.
Rather than increasing the turnover to local businesses that comes from so many of us at John Wickliffe House being in the office (I’ve spent $30 on food today!!), I think it will have the effect of decreasing business to the local area as more of us will look to work from home more often, as it is going to become even more difficult or a lot more expensive to park near work (the Distinction carpark is $5/hour).
There is also no suggestion of alternatives for longer term parking? I am interested in what council think will happen to the near 60 cars that are going to be affected and which would have been parking in the 4 hour parking spaces that currently exist (and which are always full so far as I can see). Where will those 60 cars be expected to park now?
I don't think these proposed changes take into consideration those with children or dogs who can't be taken on a bike or bus route, or those who live out of time with no cycle lanes or direct bus routes into town.
