What is your feedback on the proposed changes
Dear Sir/Madam, I am wishing to make a submission regarding the proposal to implement a no parking area for the 200 m area section of Queens Drive. I wholeheartedly would support such changes, as proposed by DCC. I have regularly accessed the back entrance of 273, 274 and 274 York Place for many years and personally have found this area to be extremely concerning as you have a confluence of a number of factors that combined or individually can make driving in this area dangerous. These factors include a narrow and shaded road that is undulating and reasonably narrow (with or without cars being parked). Furthermore, this section of the road experiences ranges in volume of traffic, which increases significantly in and around the start and conclusion of school. Finally (and related to schooling) many of the drivers that utilise this section of the road are often school aged children, who may have limited experience driving in what are somewhat challenging conditions. To illustrate my concerns, I have personally experienced several “near misses” while travelling this section of the road and feel that ‘defensive’ driving is a must at all times. Furthermore, there has been occasion to assist some individuals with retrieving their vehicles from the roadside, as they have not parked particularly well and have ended up in precarious positions. At times I have also being forced to reverse from the direction I have come from, as the parking (often poor) of vehicles has narrowed the road to such a degree that there is now only safe passageway for one lane. Naturally, any instance where a vehicle is reversing anywhere on a residential road is a cause for concern, considering the safety implications of this. Finally, I think it important to state that the residents (and visitors) of the aforementioned York Place properties are often placed in compromising positions entering and existing their access road. When you have a combination of a narrow road, poorly parked vehicles and sloped exits/entry’s it sometimes feels as if the scene is more an obstacle course than a road and it is an immense challenge to navigate even for the most skilled, experienced and aware drivers. In conclusion, I would reiterate my support for the proposed changes. Kind regards Jason Watkins
