Local Water Done Well feedback
Which water services delivery model do you support?
A Three Waters Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO)
Why did you choose this option?
The Council have failed to manage the current flooding situation in South Dunedin. Action is required now not at some future date as outlined in South Dunedin the Future plans.
Do you have any other feedback related to the proposed water services delivery models?
The number one priority for Dunedin District Council should be to prevent flooding in the south Dunedin suburbs aprx 20 -25% of the cities population and business community. The continued and regular flooding of that area is unacceptable. These are not unforeseen emergency events but a failure of outdated infrastructure.I understand that the current wastewater standards for the building of new suburbs is not being meet and yet the council continues to permit high intensity dwellings to be built across the area. Having been resident for nine years and paid my council tax i expect a minimum standard of service provision and my property not to be flooded with waste water and sewage every two years. I also understand that some measures which could be taken right now are not being taken, such as the kaikorai pipe diversion. The current endless rounds of consultation are starting to look like procrastination and some urgent and immediate action needs to be taken to fix a substandard infrastructure. I believe this is now becoming a public health issue and would like to know under what authority the council pumps sewage from other parts of the city into the streets of a high density population area.
Thank you
