Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I support the Tunnels Trail project to develop a Shared Path/Cycleway between Mosgiel and Caversham, and want it added back in to the Annual Plan for immediate development. The Tunnels Trail project should be funded without delay, and given high priority, with a focus of delivering operational sections as soon as possible. While NZTA co-funding may not be currently available, other sources of co-funding need to be investigated, or allow the Trust/Community to independently proceed with development. Providing a safe and low gradient route between Dunedin and Mosgiel, will provide enhanced opportunites for recreation and commuting. The Tunnels Trail is Dunedin's internal transport corridor between the coast and the Plain, as well as our link to the wider Otago cycleway network. Providing a link through to the Clutha Gold trail at Waihola will make Dunedin a prime destination for cycle tourism. This will also allow us to leverage our fantastic mountain biking trails and our excellent road biking opportunites. This project will help to encourage mode shift towards active transport, this will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the health of the community. Making use of the old railway tunnels is also an excellent use of a key part of Dunedin's heritage. Refurbishing these historical assets will allow us to breath new life into them, connecting Dunedin's past and future.
