I’m in favour of the Tunnels Trail initiative to establish a Shared Path and Cycleway connecting Mosgiel and Caversham, and urge that it be reinstated into the Annual Plan for prompt implementation. This project deserves urgent funding and should be treated as a top priority, with an emphasis on opening usable sections as soon as possible. Although NZTA co-funding may not currently be available, alternative funding options should be explored, or the Trust and wider community should be supported in moving forward with the project independently. The Tunnels Trail serves as Dunedin’s key internal route linking the coast to the Taieri Plain, and also forms an essential part of the greater Otago cycle network.
