Local Water Done Well feedback

Which water services delivery model do you support?

Why did you choose this option?

Do you have any other feedback related to the proposed water services delivery models?
I understand the need to plan into the future with the threat of rising sea levels and coastal erosion. However more urgent is the upgrade of existing infrastructure. The continued diversion of sewage and stormwater from other suburbs and the subsequent overflow in South Dunedin is appalling. Sewage gurgling up from manhole covers in Surrey Street is simply unacceptable. Plans announced after the 2015 flood have not been implemented and the problem continues to be blamed on climate change. Climate change is real but not responsible in this situation. There is a great deal of impenetrable land which will never drain sufficiently in even moderate rain. We welcome the new builds of multiple units but they must go hand in hand with improved infrastructure. The answer is engineering with suitably sized pipes and pumps. Allowing water into the area is not a practical solution. Dunedin residents from other suburbs no doubt sympathise but at the same time congratulate themselves that they don't live here. South Dunedin is a lovely place to live, ideal for older people or those with limited mobility. The schools are top notch and the proximity of the beaches and playgrounds is ideal for families. I've lived in my house for 42 years, originally with my husband until his death in 2019. I would love to continue living here for as long as I'm physically able to. Please get on with resolving the immediate sewage and stormwater issue and don't delay it for nine years.
