Should we remove 231 Stuart Street (formerly the Fortune Theatre) from the list of strategic assets in the DCC Significance and Engagement policy?
Yes, remove 231 Stuart Street from the list of strategic assets (this is our preferred option)
Do you have any comments about 231 Stuart Street?
Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?
No, do not introduce an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST)
Do you have any comments about the entry fee for international visitors?
Rather than introducing a $20 entry fee it would be better to sell a Dunedin card (kind of like a London Pass) which offers things like free bus travel, a discount in museum shops, special exhibition tickets/planetarium or local cafes etc etc this way you both get paid an amount and tourists are encouraged to utilise discounts and spend more in shops. If you charged say $40-50 for an adult (kids go free) then it feels like you are donating to services and getting a decent return on investment. You could also add options for private businesses (like monarch tours, the ferry, bike hire etc) to join and share their own discounts enhancing people willing to buy into the scheme. It would probably also work as something offerred at a lower rate to Kiwi tourists as well … just a thought and would give you more longevity than starting at $20 now and upping over time.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
