Local Water Done Well feedback

Which water services delivery model do you support?
The Council’s preferred option: an in-house delivery model

Why did you choose this option?
We are in the position that we are using facilities and infrastructure that past generations built and paid for. We have to do the same thing, leaving a good functioning system for future generations. A city will only thrives if present generations make the required sacrifice for our mokopuna.

Do you have any other feedback related to the proposed water services delivery models?
I don't want to be in the position where my grandchildren can criticise me for allowing our infrastructure to deteriorate because I was not prepared to pay my share. I am also concerned that I want the current system protected against it being privatised later so that some politician with a pet project cannot use it to raise some quick funds to make its delivery possible. To protect against such a possibility, i wish to suggest that a further protection should be built in with the privatisation having to gain the support of 75% the elected council. I also like the idea that it is cheaper in the long run to have the system as an internally run system as the level of borrowing is reduced because the council is restricted on the level of it's borrowing. This approach also gives the population the greater ability to control and direct the future path of development. The management of the CCO limits the level of accountability as the small group making up the management team adds another level of disconnection from the people using the infrastructure. It is sad to say' that I don't trust the aspirations of future generation of politicians, especially in terms of raising the level of borrowing and expecting future generations to front up and cover the additional debt. The case is clearly made for option one, on page 28 of the council pamphlet, over proposal two.
