Should we remove 231 Stuart Street (formerly the Fortune Theatre) from the list of strategic assets in the DCC Significance and Engagement policy?
No, keep 231 Stuart Street as a strategic asset
Do you have any comments about 231 Stuart Street?
Theatre is part of the reason people choose to visit dunedin so its important to retain it, both for the good of the local community and to avoid severing long standing connections with theatre groups and fans outside of Dunedin. Many of the venues in Dunedin are dilapidated so its important there be at least one which isn't, for music and for theatre.
Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?
Yes, introduce an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) (this is our preferred option)
Do you have any comments about the entry fee for international visitors?
I think it would be fair, given that Tuhara has an entry fee for some parts of it.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
The venues are important for keeping young people in the city. Without a thriving youth culture, the young people that can leave will, and thats resources being taken away from the city. Its very important to me that the Fortune theatre is funded, even if it takes longer to do than originally planned.
