Do you have any comments about 231 Stuart Street?
Leaving it neglected and empty is just a shameful and costly reminder of how council owned venues in Dunedin are neglected. Sammy's is another case in point. Sell them and use the proceeds to support othet struggling venues or there will be nowhere left operating in the city
Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?

I am distressed at the removal of the $17 million put side for a long promised performing arts centre from the 9 year plan. And the abandonment of the work investigating the refurbishment of the Playhouse, Atheneum and Mayfair theatre. I am the longest currently serving committee member for the Playhouse theatre overseeing in particular or 3 children's shoes each year . Fellow members have been working with council for 6 years now many hundreds of hours of volunteer labour and it is soul destroying to see their work come to nothing. I have been involved with the children's theatre over the last 47 years. First as a parent then an actor and finally over the last 25 years as a director and convenor. We supply Dunedin with quality affordable shows each school holidays which generations of Dunedin's young people have attended regularly for more than 50 years - over 5000 of them a year. We also have up to 30 places each show for young people to grow and develop their talents. Many of them come back multiple times and we have a number of families including mine who are now on the third generation's participation. We have had many successful careers in the performing arts start on our stage. But more than that we give the participants a sense of family and belonging teamwork and self worth. Our small committee is struggling to maintain our aging building and without council support we are facing closure in the foreseeable future. This will be a huge loss to the children and families of Dunedin. And heartbreaking for those of us who have worked so hard with thousands of unpaid hours of work to give kids these opportunities.
