Local Water Done Well feedback
Which water services delivery model do you support?
The Council’s preferred option: an in-house delivery model
Why did you choose this option?
The potential corporatisation of water services makes me feel deeply uncomfortable. The creation of a CCO feels like it is one step away from the privatisation of water, packaging our water services up for sale. After the DCC's recent Aurora Energy Proposal, I no longer trust the council not to sell off core services to the private sector. Access to clean water is arguably the most essential public service, and it is critical that we retain direct community involvement and accountability, rather than this service being owned or operated by those who prioritise profits over public needs.
Do you have any other feedback related to the proposed water services delivery models?
I do agree that centralisation of water standards and services will greatly improve efficiency, and ensure safe and reliable services, and would like to see this happen. However I do not wish for water services to be packaged into companies or entities due to the risk of future privatisation. If centralisation can be achieved through government departments or water boards that oversee larger regions then I am fully supportive of this approach.
