Should we remove 231 Stuart Street (formerly the Fortune Theatre) from the list of strategic assets in the DCC Significance and Engagement policy?
No, keep 231 Stuart Street as a strategic asset
Do you have any comments about 231 Stuart Street?
This was a beautiful building of key significance to the arts community of Ōtepoti and if we can’t have it in use it should at least be maintained as a strategic asset for the city. Location and heritage hugely valued.
Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?
Yes, introduce an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) (this is our preferred option)
Do you have any comments about the entry fee for international visitors?
Absolutely charge an entry fee for art gallery, railway station, Toitu, Fortune Theatre as a museum of arts including literature and music museum for our City of Literature, etc etc. When overseas we expect to pay entry for loos, museums etc etc and we are just stupid to let that opportunity to fund tourism assets from visitors.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
Dunedin is vastly underserved for aquatic facilities and with our aging population benefitting from hydrotherapy it needs access again to the Physio Pool. This would be a much cheaper option than elsewhere and other upgrades. The DCC could make a significant contribution to the Trust who want to fundraise for its refurbishment if they contributed staff and pool mechanics/engineers and enabled admissions to fall under the DCC cohort of pools. It would serve the community of well and patients in Otago well and its historic story also should be included for cruise ships and other tourists visiting. Hot pools are sought after in cold climates and we could really utilise its unique properties well. The new Trust are very enthusiastic but need DCC backing so this can be supported in Opex once we have fundraiser for Capex. Other cities around the globe value their heritage pools and with our gorgeous heritage building focus we should also celebrate this unique piece of functional architecture.
Local Water Done Well feedback
Which water services delivery model do you support?
A Three Waters Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO)
Why did you choose this option?
I liked the involvement of tangata whenua in all water decisions and am not sure that in house has enough of that but would hope it has.
Do you have any other feedback related to the proposed water services delivery models?
Clean water is critical for health. We need to do it right and not sell it off. London having sold their water infrastructure offshore is paying a high price for that short sightedness.
