9 yr plan 2025 and Local Water Done Well Submission

Submission

9 year plan feedback

Should we remove 231 Stuart Street (formerly the Fortune Theatre) from the list of strategic assets in the DCC Significance and Engagement policy?
Yes, remove 231 Stuart Street from the list of strategic assets (this is our preferred option)

Do you have any comments about 231 Stuart Street?

Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?
No, do not introduce an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST)

Do you have any comments about the entry fee for international visitors?
I think $20 entry is too much for international visitors but think there should be an entry fee of $10 for each international visitor.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I am wanting to make a submission in support of the Council's recent vote to complete Te Awa Ōtākou/ Peninsula Connection project in Years 2,3,and 4 of the 9 year plan. It makes total sense to take advantage of the fact that there are cost efficiencies in tendering the work as a continuous package and getting the work done as soon as possible will help reduce the risk of future cost increases. I am so impressed with the work that has been done to date and think the city and the Council can be so proud of what has been achieved. This is a wonderful project and it has been done really well. I'm totally in support of the Council's decision to finish the project as was promised sooner rather than later and to ensure that this wonderful asset to our city achieves its full potential and also addresses some of the safety and rising sea level issues that affect the road beyond Portobello to the base of Taiaroa Head. I can personally vouch for the positive impact that Te Awa Ōtākou has had on the Otago Peninsula and its residents, as well as on the wider Dunedin community. As a school principal and teacher who has taught at all three Peninsula Schools while also living on the Peninsula I have been able to clearly see the safety benefits as families are now able to get their children to and from school by walking or cycling, greatly reducing the dangerous amount of car traffic at the school gate at drop off and pick up times. A huge amount of people use Te Awa Ōtākou and it is such a pleasure to see people out and about, connecting with each other, keeping fit and healthy, and enjoying our beautiful harbour environment. Now as a retired person regular walks to neighbouring villages for a coffee a few times a week has become a very enjoyable part of our routine and it is great to see cyclists and walkers filling the cafes and socialising with our tourist visitors. The shared path has enhanced the quality of life we experience as residents of Dunedin., as well as attracting national and international tourists. In the past you took your life in your hands if you had to walk between the villages to go to the doctor or the shop etc. We now have a safe and thoroughly enjoyable way of staying connected., as well as keeping healthy and active. This project has been life enhancing on so many levels and now it is time to finish the job and do it properly. I support the sequencing voted on with Ellison Rd to Ōtākou Fisheries Wharf to be done in Yr2, Tidewater Drive to Ellison Rd in Yr3, and finally the landward option from Portobello to Weir Rd in Yr4. This gives time to work out how to do this last section so that the children of Portobello School can safely walk to school and experience the benefits that children from Macandrew Bay and Broad Bay have been experiencing for a number of years now.
