Mosgiel Rotary has worked hard for 80 years, working in partnership with organisations, Council and individuals to improve opportunities for our community on the Taieri. We are concerned to read that the Tunnel trust's plan for a shared cycle access to Dunedin from Mosgiel, in partnership with DCC, has been scrapped completely from the 9 year plan.
The Trust has worked diligently for many years. We understand National funding may have been scrapped at present, but unless DCC continue to keep this profject in their budget as a priority, other external funding will be hard to find. The two Rotary Clubs on the Taieri committed over $300k to the Mosgiel Pool project in partnership with DCC; and the community which raised $5million in total. Please remember that these partnerships are an effective way to keep Council spending down, while allowing projects to continue with community and external funding.
Once again, it looks like Mosgiel, with around 17,000 residents living within the Taieri catchment, are left out of future plans via the stroke of a pen. This project needs to go back into the 9 year plan. Apart from being a city wide asset, it is one of the simplest ways to get more people out of cars and on to bikes for the commute to the city.
