I strongly advocate for continued and increased investment in the entrepreneurial and startup ecosystem as part of the 9-Year Plan. Dunedin has a unique opportunity to position itself as a leading hub for startups in New Zealand, leaning on its strong tertiary sector, lifestyle appeal, and business-friendly environment.
To achieve this, robust foundational support is essential, and Startup Dunedin plays a pivotal role. The organization's network and connectivity within the national ecosystem are invaluable, removing barriers and enabling startups to progress faster and more effectively. The support, connections, and resources provided have been vital to my experience in establishing a business in Dunedin.
Investing in founders and early-stage businesses fosters the next generation of local employers and aids in attracting and retaining talent. A thriving startup ecosystem energizes the economy, supports students and graduates, and infuses fresh ideas into our communities. Startup Dunedin is a cornerstone in building a strong network and accessing national and international opportunities while allowing us to live in this exceptional city.
It is crucial to increase funding for Startup Dunedin, as the current level has remained unchanged for six years, putting their vital services at risk. Investing in Startup Dunedin is an investment in Dunedin's long-term future, ensuring sustainable growth, creating opportunities, and keeping the city vibrant, diverse, and future-focused as we plan for the next decade.
