Should we remove 231 Stuart Street (formerly the Fortune Theatre) from the list of strategic assets in the DCC Significance and Engagement policy?
No, keep 231 Stuart Street as a strategic asset
Do you have any comments about 231 Stuart Street?
This is a substantial asset, not just of financial value but of value to culture and the arts. It has ready-made internal facilities and upgrade costs are money well spent for a theatre facility.
Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?
Yes, introduce an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) (this is our preferred option)
Do you have any comments about the entry fee for international visitors?
$20 may be excessive.
Maybe $10 to $15? With concessions or free for kids, students and seniors. We want people to not be deterred from visiting these facilities.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
I am concerned about the lack of commitment to a climate action strategy for the city.
Having previously submitted on this in earlier planning hearings, it is disappointing to have seen a strategy developed then the Council abandon it. There actually isn't any option with climate change... we either invest now in our grandchildren's future or do so at escalated cost later or face the consequences for this with and it's inhabitants. Pretending there is no crisis or that it doesn't matter is foolish in the extreme.
I and colleagues have researched the effectiveness of community engagement and current scientific literature confirms that most people (89%) believe climate action is essential.
Ref ‘Spiral of silence’: climate action is very popular, so why don’t people realise it? https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/apr/22/spiral-of-silence-climate-action-very-popular-why-dont-people-realise?CMP=share_btn_url
The fact that so few DO take effective action suggests the urgent need to fund community education and empowerment of our residents to take individual or collective action.
If you are prepared to do something on this, I'd be happy to assist.
Meanwhile, I'm unsure whether I can be bothered doing yet another in-person please on this if the DCC is not going to honour it's previous commitment to take and initiate meaningful action.
Local Water Done Well feedback
Which water services delivery model do you support?
The Council’s preferred option: an in-house delivery model
Why did you choose this option?
I don't want to see this privatised. Abd remain hopeful that a change in government might produce the sensible 3 waters approach we were anticipating.
Do you have any other feedback related to the proposed water services delivery models?
