9 year plan feedback
Should we remove 231 Stuart Street (formerly the Fortune Theatre) from the list of strategic assets in the DCC Significance and Engagement policy?
Do you have any comments about 231 Stuart Street?
Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?
Do you have any comments about the entry fee for international visitors?
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

Waste Management & Resource Recovery
We have significant concerns regarding the Smooth Hill landfill proposal:
• Potential for leachate entering Ōtokia Creek and affecting both the creek and Brighton Beach.
• Use of bird culling as a mitigation measure.
• The site selection is based on a decades old land survey.
We support the remediation of the Kettle Park landfill site and believe this project is essential to protect coastal areas.
We support the development of a second Rummage store and the proposed community-led resource recovery network.
We appreciated the commitment to reducing single use cups across Council venues.
Suggestions:
• Introduce city-wide inorganic collection days, enabling residents without their own transport to put out unwanted reusable items for collection or redistribution.
• Improve visibility of landfill fees at Green Island to reduce misinformation about disposal costs being unaffordable, and hopefully reduce fly-tipping.
• Support localised waste minimisation, especially community-based models that are easier for residents to access.
City beautification and maintenance
We appreciate the return to previous grass verge maintenance levels.
We support the proposed playground upgrades.
Suggestions:
• Trial wildflower verges in suitable areas, enhancing biodiversity and reducing maintenance needs.
• Offer rate reductions or microgrants to residents willing to maintain verges, alleyways and “waste ground” near their homes.
• Reinstate an annual mural fund (suggested: $15,000 per year) to support community art, reduce graffiti, and promote local pride.
Accessibility
We strongly support the addition of a Changing Places bathroom, which will help make Dunedin more inclusive and accessible for all.
Suggestion:
Consider installing a beach access mat at Brighton (or another flat access beach) to enable wheelchair users to enjoy a day out more easily.
Transport
We support the Mosgiel park and ride and trust that increased patronage has been factored in for those in sections further along the route, such as Green Island, who frequently have to stand at present.
We fully support the completion of the Te Awa Ōtākou cycle and walkway sections listed in the plan.
Climate
We are concerned at the absence of new funding toward zero carbon initiatives.
We support the bioresources facility and encourage the Council to maintain or reduce emissions across the whole city not just from Council operations.
More investment in city-wide emission reductions is needed (e.g. incentives, partnerships, and infrastructure).
Funding Opportunities
We acknowledge that groups can apply for support under the 9-Year Plan and formally request consideration of funding support for Keep Dunedin Beautiful, especially for mural funding and other community beautification projects as previously mentioned.
KDB have recently started selling merchandise to raise money but formal funding would allow us to support and implement more initiatives. The recent example of the “cat bridge” shows that such projects have passionate support from people across the city.
