The Regent Theatre Trust of Otago supports removing 231 Stuart Street (formally the Fortune Theatre) from the list of strategic assets in the DCC Significance and Engagement policy. Further to this, the trust supports the sale of the building for sympathetic development with all the profits from the sale to be ring-fenced exclusively for theatre performance infrastructure.
Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?
Yes, introduce an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) (this is our preferred option)
Do you have any comments about the entry fee for international visitors?
International visitors expect to pay to visit significant facilities in most countries and cities they travel to. Most are more than comfortable to do so in the knowledge that the fees contribute directly to the upkeep and maintenance of those facilities.

The Regent Theatre Trust of Otago welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on the Dunedin City Council's Draft 2025-34 9-Year Plan. As custodians of one of New Zealand's largest and most cherished heritage theatres we are committed to preserving the Regent Theatre's iconic status while ensuring its continued relevance, accessibility, and viability for current and future generations. Further, as an active collaborator in Ōtepoti’s performing arts sector, we submit our response in support of a series of crucial requests that we believe will ensure the continued vibrancy, sustainability, and accessibility of the city’s performing arts infrastructure and programming.
We write to request the allocation of Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) funds in the 9-Year Plan to enable the delivery of the Stage on a Stage Project at the Regent Theatre.
