While I understand financial constraints leading to a reduction in grass verge maintenance, there are areas such as the area near Bernicia St and Wickliffe Terrace, Port Chalmers that has a well established crop of Giant hogweed. It has now stress throughout the port environment by contractors equipment.
I request that council target areas like this and run regular cuts to keep the flowering in check. One flower can produce hundreds of seeds and when dry they are light and easily wind blown or carried on clothing etc. ideally a programme to eliminate the main source area be started as it will prevent further spread. It requires long term strategic thinking over the 9yp to reduce this plant. It is pytophototoxic and is a risk to anyone who has contact with it.
The other aspect is that although many residents already mow lawns outside their properties, encouragement could be given for more residents to do so or plant mixed flower seeds to beautify verges and current ‘waste’ areas.

Why did you choose this option?
Agree with council reasoning re control. As long as good advice is sought through public consultation. The public needs to have good access to plans and decisions and I think this should be easier through council processes.
