The consultation document notes that the council intends to spend $37.8m in the Financial year 2030/2031 to commence remediation of the landfill and waste that currently sits under Kettle Park a we know it. We do not oppose this work being completed nor the fact there is money being spent to implement the coastal plan.
As a key stakeholder and active user of the Kettle Park and the coastline that stretches across this area we want to ensure council sufficiently scope this project (and other related projects that impact the coastal plan) and work to ensure it encompasses the community organizations that use those facilities, entails sufficient capital budget to support those organizations relocate and considers the beach/coastal safety of any work being performed.
The CD notes that council will continue to maintain and replace the short term solutions that are in place to project the dunes but we continue to enforce that longer sustainable solutions need to be invested in that ensure public safety and look after our beautiful coastline and sufficient capital budget is needed to complete this work.
Our submission is to keep the community organisations front of mind of decision making and ensuring capital budgets include appropriate considerations when it comes to impacted parties and future facility development.
