Should we remove 231 Stuart Street (formerly the Fortune Theatre) from the list of strategic assets in the DCC Significance and Engagement policy?
Yes, remove 231 Stuart Street from the list of strategic assets (this is our preferred option)
Do you have any comments about 231 Stuart Street?
It doesn't make sense to have this beautiful building sitting on the DCC asset list wen it is deteriorating and there is no advantage to ratepayers in keeping an asset that isn't paying its way.
Should we charge an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) for international visitors aged 16 and over, at Toitū and Dunedin Public Art Gallery?
Yes, introduce an entry fee of $20 (incl. GST) (this is our preferred option)
Do you have any comments about the entry fee for international visitors?
I have travelled extensively around the world and tourists overseas don't get into very many places for free. $20 on the present exchange rate is very little for a lot of visitors. Those who come on cruises would find that a very cheap morning or afternoon. I am also aware of paying for toilet facilities but locals don't want to do that and shouldn't. So you're not going to set up some system to allow locals in for free (not free when considering our rate rises planned).
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
% of rates spent on DCC staff numbers is still too high. Bring this down.
Fortune Theatre is not the only building that needs to be sold or utilised to bring in funds to balance what the poor ratepayers are subsidising.
Peninsula Connection should be siloed until Central Government can help.
Stop spending on wish list and vanity projects will go a long way to keeping the rate rises down. Already too late from overspending done. Pensioners can't keep affording these rises well above cost of living.
Local Water Done Well feedback
Which water services delivery model do you support?
The Council’s preferred option: an in-house delivery model
Why did you choose this option?
We as ratepayers should have more control when in-house. However I'm not sure that we actually do when the DCC is just an arm of Central Government and does what they're told. We need to drop LGNZ and their relayed orders. Paying them to tell us that to do doesn't sound like sense to me.
Do you have any other feedback related to the proposed water services delivery models?
Our water continues to have neurotoxin contaminants while there are additives like fluoride. It is time to follow Europe and now the US and ban such practices. Archaic but also against our human rights.
