Do you have any comments on the draft Development Contributions Policy?
The proposed Development Contribution is short sighted and will not help to achieve Dunedin as being economically and socially prosperous, or having quality housing choices and adequate urban land supply.
The proposed development contribution for the regions of Karitane, Waikouaiti, and Middlemarch are outrageous and are a reflection of poor infrastructure spending by the council. The huge burden is not going to help these regions grow as the contributions will stifle any future development or drive up the price of land pushing homes further from the affordability of most. The city has a unique opportunity to develop and attract people to the region.
My residence does not even have a footpath where the multiple children on the street can walk to school without exposure to vehicles. More development in the region will increase rates spend which should be put towards the development of infrastructure to keep the current residents safe.
I would like to see these areas grow but the development contributions are likely to create a suppressed supply of land and housing options.
