Submission
Variation 2 change ID F2-1 Provision name and number, or address and map layer name Rule 9.2.1.5 My/our submission seeks the following decision from the Council: Accept the change with amendments outlined below Details In addition to retention tanks for wastewater, dwellings built in the proposed East Taieri subdivision 201, 207 and 211 and other green field sites where practicable, should be required to collect rain water in sizeable tanks as potable water to reduce impact on the 3 water issues. They could still be connected to the reticulated water for dry periods. Reasons for these views Storm water run off from new homes contributes to polluted flood water. There has been a massive increase in new housing in Mosgiel meaning lots of impervious surfaces that water runs straight off. Retention tanks for waste water only address part of the problem. Wherever rain water harvesting is practicable (and especially on a flood plain) it should be required for new builds reducing demands on the council water supply and preventing the waste of this precious resource. This may also help with land stability in some locations during periods of intense rain fall which are likely to become more frequent.
