    Variation 2 change ID D1, D4, D5, D6, D7, D8, NDMA 2-15, E5
Provision name and number, or address and map layer name Changes for subdivision of large greenfield areas
My/our submission seeks the following decision from the Council: Reject the change
Details I do not agree with turning good land into Housing when there are alternatives such as allowing high-rise accommodation in the city. If green areas are agreeable to sacrifice for housing, then perhaps we need to reprioritize the land to bio-diversity as it is the lack of bi-diversity in the world that is the most significant cause of climate change.
Reasons for these views Many cities in the world have decided to build up rather than continued and unsustainable urban sprawl. Continually converting productive land into housing only contributes to the pressures on our infrastructure and carbon emissions and destroys any chance of increasing bio-diversity or destroys land used for food production. An example of this is the ever increasing traffic congestion we suffer on our roads as more and more people have to commute to work in the city centre. I do not understand why we do not simply remove the height restrictions to allow urban development to go up rather than an unsustainable urban sprawl. We have 20 years to change our ways before our planet reaches the tipping point of no return. I feel it is more important that our grand children can live out their lives with shadows and views of high-rise buildings in our city centre rather than their lives cut short due to the consequences of the decisions we make today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64R2MYUt394
