Submission
Variation 2 change ID I would like to make a submission on the Variation Change ID. Provision name and number, or address and map layer name My/our submission seeks the following decision from the Council: Reject the change Details Reasons for these views If this change went ahead I am gravely concerned about the following resulting outcomes: 1) Increasing density on a very narrow street that only has parking on one side would result in unsafe congestion of vehicles attempting to park on the street. Added to this is my concern for school children who walk down and cross Merlin street from Columba College and Kaikorai Primary School. Why would the Council wish to encourage more activity via more driveways, moving vehicles and parking vehicles in such a busy area with respect to pedestrian's. 2) With the Resthome - Yvette Williams being located on Highgate Road this simply adds to the already congested and unsafe area and street as both visitors and staff park on both Highgate Road and Merlin Street. 3) To provide an example - at 8 Merlin Street there is a flat occupied by 10 people, there is only enough offstreet parking for around 3 cars - that leaves 7 cars attempting to park outside our house or other houses on the street - again noting that there is only parking on one side of the street. This produces noise and again congestion which is not pleasant. 4) If you were to allow higher density housing on Merlin Street I would hate to think how unsafe this would make it for residents and school children. It would simply be irresponsible. 5)This change would make our section/house less valuable as it would result in less outdoor space , shorter setbacks from boundaries and decreased opportunities for children to have safe outdoor spaces to play. 6) Increasing density would also mean a general increase of activity and therefore noise which could cause neighbour unrest and unpleasant living. 7) Retention of spaciousness and open space is what all Cities need with zones of lower density to preserve character and amenity.
