The Dunedin City Council is seeking expressions of interest for the 2025 Tuia Rangatahi Programme.
As part of the Local Government New Zealand Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs, the programme offers mentoring and wānanga (forums) for rangatahi Māori aged 18-25 to develop their leadership skills.
“Participants in the Tuia programme are those rangatahi Māori who have something special to offer our community,” says Mayor of Dunedin Jules Radich.
Mayor Radich is among those to mentor Tuia programme participants, alongside other community leaders, as each participant embarks on a 12-month community project of their choosing.
“I look forward to mentoring the talent emerging through the Tuia programme each year. It’s a chance to engage with and help guide our future leaders, and it’s great to know our communities will be in good hands in the future.”
Throughout the year, selected participants attend five wānanga (forums) at marae across the country. These wānanga offer opportunities for rangatahi Māori to create meaningful connections with rangatahi nationwide and learn about the personal and community histories that have driven their whakapapa journeys.
Applicants for the programme must be a rangatahi Māori aged 18-25, be actively involved in contributing to the wellbeing of their community, able to commit to mentoring and event attendance over the 12-month period and be able to undertake a 12-month community project.
Rangatahi Māori aged 18-25 can apply at Tuia registrations 2025. Expressions of interest close Friday, 7 February.
