Dunedin City Council is monitoring drinking water levels in Port Chalmers and surrounding areas.
Currently, we are experiencing high demand in the area and are investigating potential causes for this demand.
To maintain sufficient treated water reservoir levels, we have re-activated the Port Chalmers Water Treatment Plant.
We have identified several leaks on private networks and are working with the owners of these systems to remedy this as quickly as practicable. We are also continuing our efforts to identify other potential causes.
If residents or businesses are aware of any leakages or patterns of use that may be contributing to this issue, we ask that they contact us.
We urge residents and businesses in the area to use water wisely to avoid the introduction of restrictions.
A few easy ways to reduce water use:
- Be mindful of how much water you’re using in the garden, or when cleaning your car or boat
- Take shorter showers
- Turn off the tap when brushing teeth
- Keep an eye on your taps for leaks
- Wash full loads of laundry
- Use a small bowl, rather than a full sink to wash vegetables
