Cycles lanes need to be protected from traffic. Not just a white line on the road. Plus unprotected car-door zone painted lanes are unacceptable. I regularly cycle on the Otago peninsula painted cycle lanes on Portobello Road. Cars treat them like chicanes that enable them to cut corners. They are dangerous. Someone will die. A white line on the road looks nice but offers no protection for vulnerable road users. It’s the same with pink road cones. They will not stop a car smacking into you.
