I am Hendrik Koch , a trustee of the Dunedin Environment Centre Trust and the coordinator of the Shetland Street Community Gardens . We put in a submission to the 2024 DCC Plan requesting $10,000/ annum
to help cover our costs . I appeared before this Council showing you a video of all the work the DEC Trust has done
over the last 25 years in planting and maintaining the Bishopscourt Reserve and the Kaikorai Common . We also
establishing the Shetland Street Community Gardens/Conservation Nursery and helped to develop the Maara Kai on the Araiteuru Marae. We also undertake other ongoing conservation projects . We are committed to this koupapa and wish to continue well into the future .
The Council had approved our request for the funding and we are very thankful . I will attach the Draft DCC Contract that I have signed on behalf of the trust . In the last 6 months since receiving the payment from the DCC we have spent well over $5,500 in expenses . We have not yet finalised our Annual Accounts but as soon as they are tabled at our AGM next month we will make them available to the DCC for scrutiny as required .
We request that the DCC continue to provide this level of financial support for the whole duration of the 9 Year Plan.
It is essential that our core volunteers are not out of pocket and reimbursed costs to ensure their ongoing commitment . It requires substantial management skills to facilitate community participation and provide well maintained amenities . Your ongoing support will be much appreciated .
