Illustrated dusk landscape featuring the Matariki star cluster shining above rolling hills, with birds flying across a purple and orange evening sky and stylised koru patterns in the foreground.

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ōtepoti warmly invites whānau and the wider Ōtepoti community to Hauhake tū, ka tō Matariki, a large-scale community celebration as part of the 2026 Puaka Matariki Festival.

Hosted at the kura in Fairfield, this free event creates a welcoming and inclusive space for tamariki, whānau, and the wider community to come together and celebrate Puaka Matariki through te ao Māori.

Event Highlights

  • Live performances
  • Māori arts and crafts
  • Kai stalls
  • Community activities

Rooted in te reo Māori and tikanga, the kaupapa honours those who have passed, strengthens community connection in the present, and looks ahead through the hopes and aspirations of the next generation.

The evening also provides a platform for local artists, performers, and community groups to share their talents, stories, and creativity during the Puaka Matariki season.
